“Sugoi” - a Magazine for Japanese Street and Pop Culture

Visual case design, print design, motion design for advertising and content editing

“Sugoi” (Amazing in Japanese) magazine is a printed magazine intended for young Israeli people who love Japanese street and pop culture. The design of the magazine draws inspiration from the culture itself and celebrates the visual richness, and the madness of this culture. The design let the images that this culture creates to speak for themselves, without overshadowing them, but rather empowering them.

The first challenge in this project was to create a recognizable visual appearance for the magazine, that would set it apart from other magazines. The second challenge, was to create a visual language, which has a clear structure that would make the large amount of content accessible and easy to read. At last, the design had to be flexible enough to provide a rich and surprising experience in reading the magazine and transitioning from one issue to anther, as typical to the culture itself
